Current: We are working on constructing surveys to find out which class is the most environmentally conscious in Calgary. We have learned about different sampling methods and different types of bias in survey questions. In Chemistry we have completed our first experiment that may or may not support the Law of Conservation of Mass. We learned about exothermic and endothermic reactions.
Upcoming: The Chemistry Unit test is scheduled for May 13th. The students are scheduling with their assigned teacher a time where they can come visit the different classrooms and conduct their survey. Handed Back: Working on finishing marking their Plate Projects (not handed back yet) as well as their chemistry model projects (not handed back yet)

Upcoming: Mental Math portion of the circle geometry test. A project in chemistry will be handed out this week.
Handed Back: On Wednesday the students will get their math test to take home. Tuesday we will do a self evaluation on their communication mark. They will get their copy to take home on Wednesday. Current: We have just finished our understanding and learning of ionic compounds. We are about to start the learning process of covalent compounds and their naming. In math we are starting our probability unit. Upcoming: A circle geometry project is upcoming, probably within the next week.
Current: We are working towards understanding periodic table, and how it works. In math we are almost done our learning of the 4 circle geometry properties. Upcoming: Khan academy left over from the break has been given an extension until Friday.
Circle Geometry unit test will be April 25th. Current: We have just started new units in both math and science. We are working on circle geometry and chemistry. Handed Back: Students have all recieved their electricity test results as well as their linear equations exams
Upcoming: Khan academy is due Sunday March 31 Wow! January just flew by! I'm sorry that I haven't been on the ball with this is month! If you are ever curious about what our class is doing my email is [email protected] Love hearing from you!
Upcoming: Students are working on an "Illest Road Trip of All Time" Assignment. This involves them to graph out kilometers of their trip, calculate the cost of their food and lodging as well as serves as an introduction to linear equations. Current Working On: We are in our linear relations unit. Focus on creating graphs and being able to interpolate and extrapolate data. Handed Back: Students are waiting on their conservation project as well as the results from their debate about the ethics of genetic modification. Upcoming: Students are preparing for a Math exam on polynomials on December 13th, and a science exam on December 19th. We also have two current projects on the go. Our watershed project and our environmental chemistry experiment.
Handed Back: Students are continuing to work on their formative pieces for math (3 questions that I review every other day). They get it back and we work on the corrections in small groups. Current: Today we learned about different gene types! And we are starting to incorporate polynomials into word problems. Sorry for the delay. November has rushed by and I can't believe at the end of next week we will already be in December!!
Handed Back: Students got their exponent math test back, they were given the opportunity to self assess their communication grade. Over the weekend I will grade their communication and Monday we will compare! This should help students give a deeper meaning to what exactly it means to show excellent communication in math. Currently Working on: We still have our two projects on the go. Our environmental chemistry experiments and our Watershed Project Proposals. We are currently learning about reproduction strategies (asexual and sexual) as well as the role variety plays in a species. Upcoming: For this unit in science Biodiversity, students are compiling a set of flashcards that contain all the key terms. Khan Academy has been switched so that it is only assigned one day a week (Monday) and due one day a week (Sunday). I'm hoping this will alleviate some of the struggle students are having with the program. Project ManiaWe have a lot of projects on the go right now. The great news is the students are really excited and engaged in all of them.
Handed Back: Students have been handed back their biodiversity tests. We went over it in class and students are more than welcome to come and look at their original test at any time. At the end of the year, students will be given all tests back to help prepare them for their final exam. Upcoming: Exponent Exam on Tuesday November 13th, Crescent Heights Tour form Monday November 12th Take your kid to work day: November 14th Crescent Heights High School tour: November 15th Currently: We are working on learning the basic terms associated with biodiversity as well as continuing our practice with exponent laws. The two projects we are working on, our environmental chemistry experiment; students designing their own experiment on an aspect related to environmental chemistry. And the Watershed project, a project we are working on Fridays, to create something that will improve the quality of our watershed. Upcoming:
Lots of things going on in our math and science room this week. On Monday our school resource officer will be in to discuss youth criminal justice. On Tuesday the 103 class will be at the Bird Sanctuary attending the Bio Blitz program. Wednesday the students have an Environmental Chemistry Test. And on Thursday we will be going to the zoo in the afternoon. Handed Back: Students have received both their Watershed projects as well as their Rational Numbers Unit Test results. Current: Students are starting their Enviro Chem projects this week. They will be tasked with designing and carrying out an experiment underneath the topic of Environmental Chemistry. In math we have just started to examine exponent laws. |
